We asked Steve to tell us about his career experiences in his own words.
I have been involved in the construction trade for approximately 35 years covering domestic, commercial and industrial works. My experiences have instilled a comprehensive knowledge of the industry and an understanding that learning new skills and perfecting and adapting to different methods etc. is of crucial importance. Technology, Materials and methods have changed and continue to improve due to technological advances.
I have worked at all levels within construction, from site-work to senior management and I have gained a valuable, understanding and appreciation of the requirements and functions at each level. This has proved paramount on contracts both large and small, which ultimately rely on motivation, teamwork and communication between all involved in any particular project.
I was apprentice trained starting in 1984 by my mentor Mr. Stuart Berwick, from Saltburn By the sea in North Yorkshire, England. He was a true perfectionist with an eye for detail and insisted on high quality finishing works. his Motto was “if you not going to do it right, don’t do it at all!” . This was to be the focal point of my training and career and have continued to follow by example. I am proud of the untarnished reputation I have achieved from both customers and employers, as a highly conscientious multi-skilled tradesman, especially for the manufacture and installation of custom built joinery, cabinetry and furniture to the highest quality standards.
I have always enjoyed undertaking challenging projects through to completion, but what I find most rewarding now, is to able to share my skills and experience and incorporate it any projects I carry out for my customers leaving me with the feeling of self-satisfaction and personal achievement.”
